10 Ways to Better AdSense Earnings

10 Ways to Better AdSense Earnings
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=John_T_Pratt]John T Pratt

You can make lots of money monetizing your blog with AdSense if you have quality content, the right keywords, and the right AdSense ad layout. Many people complain they can't make money with AdSense or that it cheapens their site. I will show it how it will not only increase the value of your site, but how it will start building you monthly income!

I monetize my web sites and blogs in many different ways. I see many web sites missing out when it comes to non-invasive ways to monetize your web site or blog, and they don't have to be ways in which you anger your visitors. In fact - good monetization will always compliment your web site, not "cheapen" it. I have also read many articles that debate when to monetize, and there are still some hold-outs that say build up traffic on a site first and then monetize once it gets to a certain level. I'm sorry - that's just BS in my book, and I have the experience to back it up. Monetize your web site from day 1 - PERIOD!

Why? Every post and page is an opportunity to make money. Making money with a web site is like planting a garden. Why would you want to keep plowing the field for 6 months and and keep waiting to plant the seeds? Also monetization is marketing, and marketing takes time and skill. Yes - skill. The more you do it the better you become, so do it from day #1.

Making money online is like a sport or a professional trade.

Ingredients you WILL NEED to become SUCCESSFUL:

Competent Trainers and Mentors
Passion and Drive to Succeed
Organization and Work Ethic
Ability to make 10,000 mistakes and keep going
Good Communications Skills
Practice, Practice, Practice!

Today we're going to talk about monetizing your web site with Google AdSense. If you're already using Google AdSense - read this article anyway and learn how to make more money using AdSense. Click the banner above to join AdSense if you haven't already. By signing up with AdSense you can build code snippets and place ads on your web site.

AdSense Myths:

To make any money you need thousands of visitors per day
Ads will make a percentage of your visitors leave and not come back
AdSense cheapens the look of your web site

You would be surprised how much more money you could be making with some very basic and simple changes to your web site. Think about how much you could be making per day. Just $1 per day is $30 per month, which should more than pay for most basic hosting plans (and then some). Only $5 per day and you're making $150 per month, $10 per day is $300/mo. It adds up quicker than you think. Especially if you have more than one blog or web site to monetize.

AdSense Facts:

You can make $1-$3 a day on as little as 20-30 visitors per day
A percentage of your visitors quickly leave anyway (the bounce rate) - you can make money on that dead traffic
AdSense is so targeted that it's less of an intrusion and more of a service compared to other ads

The first thing you need to understand is where the ads come from. AdSense is fed by Google's other product AdWords. If you haven't used AdWords before - it's where you can pay to drive traffic to your web site - you "pay per click". In the AdWords marketplace - people "bid over keywords". The more competition there is for a keyword, the more it costs and the highest bidder wins the top slot, the next bidder the next slot, and so on. For example it may cost 50 cents per click to get the keyword "designer handbag", but I bet you can get "clay flowerpot" for under a nickel. It's all about supply and demand. The most searched for terms are fought over pretty fiercely. Once keywords are purchased, the AdSense algorithm places the actual ads on web sites - matching them up with keywords and content on web pages. The algorithm is pretty amazing, and in most case will be serving highly target ads to your web site within minutes. If the ads are way off target or inappropriate - you need to re-think your web site setup.

So once a keyword is purchased and an ad is written - it's matched up with a highly targeted web page where it should perform well. It doesn't matter how "busy" or popular that web site is, well performing and paying ads are placed on appropriate pages getting from a dozen to thousands of visitors per day. If you are using high paying keywords in your web site content, you will attract high paying ads. Did you understand that statement? Go back and read it two more times and think about it a minute.

That's right - the key to making money in AdSense is attracting well paying ads. If I have a web site that gets only 30 visitors per day, and 3 per day click an AdSense ad paying 35-50 cents, I can easily make $1 per day from this very low-traffic web site. Of course everyone wants to get more than 30 visitor per day, but all sites have to start somewhere. I'm illustrating how easy it is to make money from day #1. I do this in nearly all the sites I setup. Many of you that have used AdSense for a long time won't believe it, because in my example my AdSense clicks pay extremely high and the click-through-rate (CTR) is 10%. Most sites are lucky to get a 2-3% CTR on AdSense ads, and the clicks usually pay a nickel or less on average.

I said earlier that if you received off target ads your blog or web site layout was possibly not "AdSense optimized". If you want to attract high paying ads and make the most AdSense revenue possible from your existing traffic - I'll give you some very simple rules to follow when writing articles, pages, and posts. If you follow these very basic rules you will not only get more revenue per click with AdSense, but (in the long run) you will also get more visitors, and better search engine listings.

Top 10 Ways To Make More Money from AdSense Using Keywords

Obtain a URL with very important keywords in your niche: I can't say enough about this. The #1 reason I have so many domains is because when you build a niche site if the domain has your top 2 or 3 keywords in it - you immediately start getting traffic from post #1. This is very important.
Use permalinks, pretty URL's, etc: This is second most important whether you are using WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, Mambo, or whatever. As soon as you setup your software turn on permalinks, pretty URL's, or whatever it's called so you posts have "site.com/this-is-my-post". Having great keywords in the URL past the top level domain name is only second to keywords in the domain name itself.
Find the Best Keywords and Phrases: DO YOUR RESEARCH! Find out how to do keyword research. If you don't know what the best keywords for your niche are - there really isn't much point reading any farther than this...
Create a Great Title: When you write a post the title controls much more than you think. Everyday I read great articles with crappy titles. With every title you need to be thinking of using keywords that will be searched for while linkbaiting a title enticing people to click. This can be harder than it sounds, because the best titles are 6-8 words or less. I've gotten better at this over time, but it's just practice, practice, practice to become a master at it!
Have an H1 Title first: WordPress natively takes your html post title tag and puts it into an H1 tag as the textual title on the post's web page. If you use another CMS like Drupal, Joomla, Mambo, or something else make sure your Content Management System does the same. Keywords in header tags (especially the first header of the page) carry much more weight than laster in the content areas.
Start with a Synopsis Paragraph: Unless you are writing custom meta description tags for every single page the most important area of any post or page after the title is that first paragraph. This paragraph ultimately becomes your description under you title link in search engine results pages. You want to stick to 2 or 3 sentences when possible, or at least place your important keywords there. Remember - what you type will not only determine how well this page comes up in search results, but also how your page is described and why people click!
Bold important keywords as you write: As you write your post or article bold keywords and phrases when you are making points. These keywords, combined with your title and synopsis help target ads (and traffic!).
Link relevant sources: This is a given, but should be mentioned. Be sure to link only relevant items in your post - it helps target everything.
Organize sections using h3 and h4 headings: Using h3 and h4 headers in longer pages and posts is a great way to "sub-title" the page with even more targeted keywords. It's also easier to organize information (and for more people to follow and read).
Use keyword laden categories and tags: Just before you publish that page or post, be sure to use great keywords to both categorize and tag it.

Now back to the AdSense ads themselves. First - if you are brand new to AdSense, be sure to visit the newly created   rel=nofollow [http://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/static.py?hl=en&page=guide.cs&guide=25731&rd=1]AdSense official newbie help at Google and get all the free information that you can. Second you want to get the code for the AdSense ads necessary for placement on your web site. I want you to view the Google heat map (you can find it in the newbie help link). This picture illustrates where a visitor's eyes go first, and where you would get the most clicks. Do you see how the reddest spot on the page is directly above the content? I want you to understand that if you could only place one AdSense ad per page - it should be directly above you content. In addition, the highest paying and best performing AdSense ad is 336x280 large rectangle.

So you're ready to place that ad? Not so quick - you need to "blend" it into the look and feel of your page. When you create it in AdSense setup make the background color the same as where it will be placed on your page. Make the font color and size the same, make the link colors the same too. I personally would never use video ads for any reason - only text. My reasoning on this is that in a 336x280 text ad you normally get 4 text ads, and that's 4 chances to make money. If a video takes up the entire 336x280 block - it's only 1 chance to make money, and it's images and video that can be intrusive to many visitors. IMHO - you would need some type of pop-culture (music, movie, celebrity, joke, media based) web site to be successful with image or video ads. Place one 336x280 AdSense ad directly before your content and one directly after. If you use Google analytics to track your web site - you many already be aware of your "bounce rate". When people come to your site, and quickly leave because they didn't find what they wanted they "bounce". To me a bounce rate of 20-30% is normal. Over 50% is incredibly high.

If you've placed the 336x280 blocks before and after the content your are placing highly targeted ads to soak up your bounce rate. In other words - if 20-30% of my customers are going to leave my site quickly anyway to find what they want - I'd prefer that they click on one of my AdSense ads to find it. I help them find what they need, and I get a "referral fee" for the click. Also visitors that stay awhile on my site many click an ad because they're in the same niche. It's like being in the library and finding the book you need, but seeing others on the same shelf you might also like.

Beyond the two mandatory AdSense blocks I use before and after the content - I often also add a 4 text link unit in a sidebar or a 160x600 skyscraper. How you feel about this is up to you and your layout. If you have other ads or sidebar content that could be earning money - it might be better placed there. But if all you have is the latest posts and some categories - these types of AdSense ads can help you not "leave any money on the table". That means - you might only make a few extra pennies or nickels per day - but if that money was just laying on the table would you just leave it there? Probably not. It adds up over time. Again - especially if you are monetizing multiple web sites.

I learned this term (money on the table) from Joel Comm, whose AdSense eBook I read a few years back just after setting up my AdSense account for the first time. For the first 6-7 months I used AdSense I made no money at all. After I read Joel's book I quadrupled my CTR and went from making pennies per day overnight to $3-$5. One month after reading that eBook I received my first ever Google AdSense check, and I've received one every month since.

So - if your web site or blog consistently using my techniques above you should have no problem earning more money from AdSense. A lot of times you read a great article like this and you wonder how successful it was for the author. Well, it worked for me - last year I made more than $10,000 from AdSense on just a few web sites...

Optimizing Adsense For Better Performance and More Money!

Optimizing Adsense For Better Performance and More Money! Optimizing Adsense For Better Performance and More Money!
By Martin Lemieux
So you want to make money with Google Adsense? I don't blame you, who doesn't want residual income! This article will show you how to better optimize Google AdSense to make more money from your web site(s).
Before we get into it, learn more about Google AdSense here: http://www.google.com/services/adsense_tour/
First and foremost is: Positioning
Where you position your AdSense link boxes and banner ads is extremely important. Trying to make money from the bottom of your pages within your website just won't cut it. You need to add your AdSense links right in the heart of your template or right in the heart of your content. I would personally suggest both actually.
Adding AdSense in the heart of your template:
Link Units:
Since the introduction of Google AdSense "link units", we can now add what looks like a "menu system" to compliment our menu system within our website. This is HUGE. Have you ever just clicked on a website and kept clicking on the menu links? I know we all have. By adding a "Google link units" to your menu, you will get more clicks than you thought possible. Try adding the link units near the top for better performance and try creating your link units to match the color of your menu system in place. Once in a while I find myself clicking on a menu link unit without even realizing it which in turn gives more money to the website owner.
Leaderboards & Skyscrapers:
These may very well be your "bread & butter". I only say this because of the sheer size of these ads units. The best place to add these ad units is obvious; Straight across the very top of your website (leaderboards), and straight down the side of your template (skyscrapers). Anywhere else may not look proper within your template and may look unprofessional.
Square & Rectangle Ad Units:
These are great to compliment the mass amount of content within your website and also within your recommended resources. You want to compliment your content, you don't want AdSense to BE your content because this will look poor on your part. AdSense is very popular with webmasters; who doesn't want to make some extra money. However, don't forget that many of your visitors are also used to seeing AdSense within a website, and need a good reason to click on them.
Square and rectangular units are great to use within articles posted on your website or within your link resources. Try adding your AdSense boxes above your resource links within a page to give your AdSense account that added extra exposure.
Just remember that Google allows up to 3 ad units per page. Using these 3 strategies will help to better optimize AdSense for positioning! Let's now go onto targeting...
Optimizing Adsense: Taking out non-related ads!
Do you ever wonder how ads like "business card specials" ever get displayed on to your website when your company content is all about baby clothing? Since the introduction of "Adwords Site Targeting", we now have to keep an eye on the ads being displayed on our website(s). Companies may now specifically target your website for more exposure. There is no restriction whether the website is content related or not, just more marketing exposure for the advertiser.
Filtering AdSense Advertisers:
Within your AdSense manager, you have the option of using the "Competition Filter" which allows us to remove certain websites from the ads being displayed regularly. This is going to be an on-going optimization task in the future. Without filtering the ads being displayed within your website, you might find yourself with ads unrelated to your industry and possibly some ads that have a negative effect within your site.
If you don't remove all the unwanted ads being displayed on your website, you might end up hurting your AdSense performance online. The more targeted you can get your Google AdSense ads to display on each page, the better your chances at being able to make more money. Try to take a moment every week to study the ads being displayed on your website.
Open up a note pad, or word document and record all the websites you don't want to be displayed anymore. Add these sites to your "filter list" within your AdSense account.
Remember to add the website (within your filter list) like so: smartads.info - without the www. Adding anything after or before the url will only prevent the company from displaying one of their many ads like so (www.site.com/ads/1.html). This way you stop anything from the entire website from showing up within your AdSense campaign online. The more you optimize your AdSense filter, the better your performance will pick up and the less non-related ads will be displayed on your website.
One constant that holds true with Adsense:
The more pages you have with your AdSense campaign being displayed, the more you WILL make. People who have online networks immediately can profit from Google AdWords because they have the power to add their AdSense boxes & banners onto multiple websites, possibly 1000's of pages.
Should you add AdSense to your website?
If you own a small company that has a brochure type website that gets maybe 50-100 visitors a day, I recommend NOT adding AdSense to your site. It will never make enough money with that kind of traffic. Remember: Your AdSense campaign needs to make over $100 to get paid out.
If your company receives around 500-1000+ visitors a day, you can now start considering to make money through Google. AdSense is all about numbers. Play the numbers to make more money. In fact, try making goals for yourself to make X amount of dollars through your AdSense account by a certain time. Doing this will only increase your business and make your company more powerful online by increasing the amount of traffic it receives.
For multiple websites, channels are important:
Google allows you to track the performance of multiple websites all in one account which ultimately gives you the ability to track how many visitors you're getting for each website. It also allows you to work harder on those sites that aren't up to par.
I consistently look at each individual website channel to work harder at promoting the ones that aren't performing well. By doing this, we increase the amount of promotion going into the websites that under perform, and in turn eventually increase the business for those websites as well. The more you promote your website, the more the exposure you will ultimately deliver for your AdSense campaign and your company.
Google Search with Adsense:
To top all that off, you can add Google search within your site to give visitors a search function for your content and to allow people to also click on your AdSense program. Please note that for Google search to work, your website and all of its content pages must already be indexed by Google. Adding the Google search bar to your site right away won't help your visitors at all.

Top Google Adsense Alternatives In 2013

Most people believe that Google Adsense is the best way to monetise a blog. But thats not always true.Often Google Adsense doesn't provide good results for blogs in specific niches. So,those webmasters need to search for another ad network. Also Google Adsense doesn't accept blogs which are less than 6 months old.So this post is dedicated to those people

Chitika

Chitika is known to be the leading alternative to Google AdSense not just in revenue numbers but also because of the size of its ad network –currently 200,000+ active publishers worldwide.  This Google AdSense alternative is very popular among new bloggers because of their low minimum payout which is just $10, so, you don’t have to wait for months or years to get your payments. Chitika also provides you with complete control over your ads. Chitika also uses its proprietary “Click Prediction” technology to show select ads when there is a greater chance they will be clicked on. This is obviously a great way to improve your revenue.  I started using Chitika just a few weeks ago.

B4PSAds.com

Despite their unusual name, B4PSAds.com is another great alternative to Google AdSense advertising if you’re looking for ways to monetize your Blog.  B4PSAds.com offers a complete advertising solution offering Pay Per Click (PPC) and Cost Per Action (CPA) to publishers and advertisers alike. That means that you can get revenues not just for the clicks but also for the conversions that happen after the click itself.  They also have a very easy approval process, and it most cases, it only requires verification of the email address. B4PSAds offers payment via Paypal or Direct Deposit. Minimum payout is just $50 and payment is on a very unusual Net 5 terms. For example, on the 5th of each month your earnings from the previous month will be reviewed and posted to your account ledger and available for withdrawal. This is the second service that I’m using now replacing my old Google AdSense account.

Infolinks

Infolinks is fairly new however, it has rapidly become one of the most popular and widely used in-text based ad network. Their system indexes your Blog page looking for keywords and phrases that are not currently links and converts them into advertizing links. Their minimum payout is $50 making payouts also quite frequently, especially if your visitors come from western countries like USA and Canada. When a user places his mouse over the text link a box opens up showing the ad. If they click on the link you get paid. It is very simple and works very effectively.  You can also use Infolinks in conjunction with an existing advertising campaign on your website.  For example you can show banner ads from Chitika and show text links with Infolinks.

BidVertiser

Another great way to monetize your Blog is BidVertiser.  BidVertiser is basically a mix of of PPC and affiliate marketing. What this means is that you get revenues for every valid clicks on your ads plus if any of the click gets converted to a sale, you will also receive an affiliate commission. The minimum payout is $10 increments via PayPal or $100 by check.  As far as the design of the ads, you can define the look and dimensions of your text ads. BidVertizer also offers the opportunity to block unwanted ads.

Clicksor

Clicksor appears to be one of the preferred Google AdSense alternatives for new Blogs or websites with little traffic.  Their approval process is quite simple too being much more flexible than Google and most websites are approved right away (at least for now).  Clicksor supports different types of ad formats like In Text, Contextual, Popups, etc. The contextual ads are very effective as your visitors will only be exposed to ads that match the keyword search that took them to your site in the first place, thus increasing your potential click through rate.  Clicksor’s payment schedule is also much better for the small site owner. In any pay period in which your earnings exceed $50.00 ($20.00 with PayPal), payments are made either by check or instantly through PayPal ($20.00 minimum for PayPal). View Clicksor >
Intellilinks
Intellilinks ad network is very similar to infolinks (mentioned above) but they have an integrated feature to sell links on your site/blog. Intellilinks specializes in placing organic text links across an ever-growing network of websites in order to build rank and traffic for advertisers and increased revenue for publishers. You can either allow to display ads automatically on your blogs or manually review them and place them yourself. The best feature about intellilinks is that there is no payment threshold. They split revenue 50:50 and make payments monthly by  PayPal no matter the amount earned.

Skimlinks

Skimlinks provides Bloggers with a very automated way to monetize all of their content regardless of the Blog’s particular niche.   In addition to the more traditional way of monetizing phrases on your site by automatically converting them into affiliate links, they also offer a more unique monetizing option.  Skimlinks can take regular links on your site and redirect them through their affiliate servers. So, for example, when you add a product link to your Blog, Skimlinks automatically turns this link into an equivalent affiliate link when a user clicks on it by redirecting briefly through the Skimlinks servers.  All of this process being completely invisible to the visitor.  Each time a user clicks on a product link that Skimlinks can re-direct to an affiliate, you earn a commission.

Media.net

Media.net is not as commonly known as the other options above, but it’s still a viable option to monetize your blog is you want to find an alternative to Google AdSense.  It’s also relatively easy to get approved by them.  They are part of the Yahoo!-Bing network and give you instant access to a large number of markets and keyword-targeted advertisers.  Their payment plan is similar to AdSense, meaning that they pay only when your account accumulates a minimum of $100 in revenue.  Media.net offers content ads, search targeting, and mobile ads that add revenues to your account when web visitors click on those ads.

Kontera

Kontera’s system is similar to Infolinks above.  Kontera is extremely easy to use. All you have to do is add a few lines of code to the end of your webpage and within 24 hours additionally links start showing up on your page that serve Kontera Ads. This service does not provide you with a complete replacement for all your ads and they do not provide banner designs.  Their ads are based on text links that are related to your content.  Some bloggers love Kontera because they seem to have one of the best payout options.  However, from the user stand point, you will see a lot of web visitors extremely annoyed by these types of contextual links.  So it could be a balancing act between maximizing your revenues and alienating your Blog or website visitors.  Kontera uses PayPal for payments and their minimum amount is $50.

Buy Sell Ads

Although this happens to be the last Google AdSense alternative on my list, it actually happens to be one of the best options to monetize your blog as well.  The only caveat is that is your Blog is brand new or if you don’t have a decent amount of traffic, you probably will not qualify.  Once you are approved though, you can list your Blog or websites in their marketplace.  Then when one of your ad spots is sold, you get 75% of the total and they keep 25% as a commission.  In other words, they assist publishers (you) sell their ad space directly to advertisers, which is much easier than you approaching individual advertisers on your own. The minimum amount that can be withdrawn from your account credit is $50.

So there you have it!  If you’re looking for Google AdSense alternatives that are also very viable ways to monetize your Blog,

Google AdSense Alternatives

Google AdSense Alternatives To Monetize Your Blog
We badly wanted to monetize our blog even though we knew we wouldn’t be getting jack shit with only 10 visitors a day. We then embarked on a journey to search for Google AdSense alternatives. To our surprise there were quite a lot of alternatives available. Some of the best alternatives that we came across are discussed in this article for the convenience of the new bloggers.
Yahoo! Bing Network
Yahoo! Bing Network is a contextual ad network provided by Media.net. It has the potential of connecting the business with high-value audience that other search engines are not able to reach. The good thing about Yahoo! Bing network is that it accounts for about 29% of the online search in the US. This means that an advertiser can reach about 160 million unique users.
Media.net then scans the pages and publishes the ads based on the keywords. The minimum payout for advertising through this network is 100$. You can get your money through PayPal or through online money transfers.
The only downside is, registrations are not open and you will have to apply for an invite. Then the normal process of approving your site begins. Among the rest on this list, Yahoo! Bing Network paid the best. You might then ask, why bother with a list of Google AdSense alternatives? While we got in Yahoo! Bing Network pretty easily, we have heard quite a number of sites getting rejected.
Chitika
Chitika is one of the best-known alternatives for Google AdSense even before Yahoo! Bing Network came about. It has a huge publisher network that ranges up to 300,000 websites. The ads on this network are content driven based on optimization technology and targeting. It has Yahoo!, SuperMedia, HomeAdvisor and Hibu as its advertising partners. The ads offered by Chitika vary from search targeted ads, local ads, mobile ads and so on.
The ad payout on Chitka varies according to the region from which the traffic comes. The payout for these ads might be low when it comes to traffic that’s not from USA, UK or Canada. They have two types of programs to improve the earnings from Chitika:
* Silver level ad program
* Gold level Ad program
The payment can be received from PayPal or through check. For PayPal the minimum payment can be 10$ and for check it should be 100$. While revenue from Chitika was relatively low, we got in pretty easily.
AdSide
AdSide is another AdSense alternative that gives great results. The focus of AdSide is to bring media agencies and advertisers together with publishers who are highly targeted. In order to be eligible for the AdSide publisher program, a website should get a minimum of 500,000 unique visits per month. Not just that, AdSide focuses on traffic mainly from US, Canada and UK.
The payment for these can be redeemed through check and should be more than 50$. The ad types offered by AdSide are:
·         Margin ad
·         Banner,
·         Pop-under ads
·         inImage ads
·         Corner ad
·         Interstitial and
·         inVideo ads
Clicksor
Clicksor is another contextual ad network. This means that the ad is displayed as per the content on your page. You can have only three ads per page via Clicksor. In addition to ads from Clicksor, you can have ads from other networks as well.
Clicksor offers five kinds of ads:
·         PPC Inline Text Links
·         PPC Text Banners
·         Graphical Banner
·         Pay per view Pop-Unders
·         Pay per View Interstitial Ads
The minimum payout for an ad via Clicksor is 50$ for PayPal or check or 1000$ for payment via wire transfer.
Infolinks
This is one of the best Google AdSense alternatives that is very easy to get an approval from. Infolinks offer four kinds of ads:
·         Insearch ads
·         Intag ads
·         Intext ads
·         Inframe ads
The best part about Infolinks is that its ads are mobile optimized. This also means that from whatever source you get the traffic from, you can monetize it. The membership and approval on this is based on the content on the website or the blog and not on the traffic that is generated.
The minimum payout for Infolinks is 50$ and the modes that are accepted are eCheck, Wire Transfer, PayPal, Western Union.
Always remember that before you join any ad network you should ensure that your website is getting enough traffic. If you have used any of these ad networks or have others to suggest, do share your experience in the comments section below.

Evaluation of Keywords for an AdSense Oriented Website

Evaluation of Keywords for an AdSense Oriented Website Evaluation of Keywords for an AdSense Oriented Website
By F. Terrence Markle
The Google AdSense movement is gaining momentum every day. The
driving force in the system is Google's AdWords ads. The AdSense
program enables website owners to monetize their site and make
additional income.
Although Google has made it simple and easy to implement AdSense on
your website, you have to spend your time and effort to develop a
central theme and the supporting content-rich web pages for your
website. You should develop your website around a specific keyword
phrase that has a high potential to monetize your website through
AdSense. The content and theme of your website should be centered
around the keyword phrase that you are targeting.
AdSense Factor
--------------
Refer to my article on The AdSense Factor for an overview on
monetizing your website with AdSense at:
http://www.QuikSystems.com/Article/The-Adsense-Factor.htm
Objective
---------
The purpose of this report is to show you one method that I use to
evaluate a keyword phrase relative to other keyword phrases for use
in an AdSense oriented website. It is not intended to show you how
to select a list of keyword themes for evaluation. That topic is
covered adequately in many different other ebooks and reports. As a
valuable resource, I use the following keyword research tool to help
me locate extremely profitable keyword phrases waiting for AdSense
content or niche products:
http://www.QuikSystems.com/adsense/sn.htm
Example
-------
The following example illustrates the potential ranking of keyword-
oriented websites based on keyword phrases previously selected by me
(or you) for consideration as a keyword-oriented AdSense website.
You must always remember there is no one best method to determine
the potential profitability or viability of any specific keyword
phrase when building a website geared towards AdSense monetization.
It takes careful and methodical research followed by in-depth
testing.
The terms used in this example for a specific keyword phrase are:
* Searches = number of searches made by search engine users for a
specific keyword phrase in the previous month as determined by
Overture at http://www.Overture.com
* Top CPC = the current maximum bid (cost per click) by an
advertiser on Overture for a specific keyword phrase
* Competition Pages = the number of web pages indexed by
Google when you perform a search for a specific keyword phrase
on Google's search engine
* Competitive Ratio = Competition Pages / Searches
* Value Index = Competitive Ratio / Top CPC
Keyword Phrase Searches Top Competition Comp Value

                                  CPC Pages Ratio Index

-------------- -------- ----- ---------- ----- -----

hardwood floor 167,461 $3.02 4,010,000 23.9 7.9

bridal registry 102,568 $4.68 2,210,000 21.5 4.6

auto towing 109,893 $0.51 4,020,000 36.6 71.7

commodity broker 126,552 $2.71 1,890,000 14.9 5.5

hair replacement 105,996 $1.17 13,500,000 127.4 108.9

adjustable bed 100,295 $3.97 2,750,000 27.4 6.9

consolidate debt 105,651 $4.57 6,320,000 59.8 13.1

credit card debt 171,737 $5.00 17,800,000 103.6 20.7

health insurance quote 161,322 $3.00 13,600,000 84.3 28.1

criminal lawyer 165,156 $4.10 22,500,000 136.2 33.2

Note: Information obtained for this evaluation in November, 2005 can
be found in the following excellent websites:
* Overture: http://searchmarketing.yahoo.com/rc/srch/ (see Keyword
Selector Tool and View Bids Tool)
* NicheBOT: http://www.NicheBOT.com
The guidelines to look for in building an AdSense-oriented keyword
phrase website includes the following items:
* You need the ability or resource to generate fresh quality
content centered around the central theme of your website on a
regular basis.
* You want a relatively high amount of targeted traffic (visitors
to your website)
* You want to minimize when possible the number of competing
websites
* You would like to have your website optimized for high-paying
AdSense ads
Analysis and Evaluation
-----------------------
First, let's assume that you have the ability and desire to generate
fresh quality content for any of the keyword phrases on the list of
potential keyword phrases under consideration. This can be done by
writing your own articles, hiring someone to write the articles for
you or using information generated by other individuals that can be
freely utilized without copyright infringement.
Second, I have purposely selected keyword phrases in my initial
search that had searches exceeding 100,000 in the most recent
month. There is no magic number to use as the minimum search
amount. However, the probability decreases in being able to get a
portion of the traffic to visit your website as the number of
monthly searches decreases. Search engine optimization may play a
vital role in generating traffic to your website. If you like,
raise the number to 200,000 or higher and see what results you
obtain. Keep in mind that at some point the number of available
keyword phrases decrease as the minimum search volume requirement is
raised. It is a matter of trial-and-error research to find your
desired search number.
Third, the competition tends to increase for the more popular
keyword phrases. The popular keywords usually have a lot of AdSense-
oriented web pages that are trying to "win the AdSense clicks" of a
limited number of visitors searching for quality content on a
specific keyword phrase. This competition is usually expressed as
the "competitive ratio." It indicates the number of indexed web
pages that exist for each search by a search engine user for a
specific keyword phrase. The ratio increases as the competition for
a keyword phrase increases assuming a steady level of visitor
searches. Not every web page indexed for a specific keyword phrase
is trying to get AdSense clicks. However, the non-AdSense oriented
web pages are still competing for the search engine visitors.
Fourth, the top bid price (or cost per click) paid by the individual
CPC advertiser (i.e., the amount paid by the advertiser to the
search engine for every click on their search engine ad) also tends
to increase as the popularity of a keyword phrase increases. As an
AdSense oriented website publisher, you want to maximize the CPC
value of the AdSense ads that are displayed on your content theme
website. As a side note, you would want to minimize (or optimize)
your CPC value if you were searching for a keyword phrase centered
around a product of service you wanted to advertise on Google AdWords.
Using the above guidelines, I have classified the list of keyword
phrases as follows (in order of preference as a keyword phrase to
design an AdSense oriented website around):
Keyword Phrase Top Competitive Value

                           CPC Ratio Index

                           Rank Rank Rank

---------------------- ---- ----------- -----

bridal registry 2 2 1

commodity broker 8 1 2

adjustable bed 5 4 3

hardwood floor 6 3 4

consolidate debt 3 6 5

credit card debt 1 5 6

health insurance quote 7 7 7

criminal lawyer 4 10 8

auto towing 10 5 9

hair replacement 9 9 10

From this list of rankings for each keyword phrase, I would probably
select "bridal registry" as my first choice and "commodity broker"
as my second choice. In a similar manner, I would probably put
"hair replacement" as my last choice and "auto towing" as the next
to last choice.
Everything boils down to how comfortable you personally feel about
this ranking system or your own ranking system. I use a ranking
system that tries to remove the subjective "guess work" and thereby
focus on the objective benefits of each keyword phrase.
I hope this methodology has value to you in your selection and
utilization of keyword phrases in your own AdSense oriented
websites. The primary objective is to select a keyword phrase that
you can use to build a quality and content-rich monetized AdSense
website.

12 Common Mistakes to Avoid While Using AdSense

12 Common Mistakes to Avoid While Using AdSense 12 Common Mistakes to Avoid While Using AdSense
By Rhonda Holmes
AdSense Mistakes #1: Putting The Cart Before The Horse
Many people over-think the way they use a fairly simple system in this day and age, and as a result make a mess of things. Because these systems are often new, people assume that they will naturally be complicated and "too different", and will require special knowledge, even when this is not the case. When using AdSense this often leads to a situation where the person thinks "AdSense" while writing content - rather than thinking "content".
Probably all of us have read sites which seem to have been designed to trigger AdSense. The content on these sites reads in a horribly forced way and sounds like it has been written around the keywords. Half of the time - let's say the keyword is "Swarovski crystals" - the content will be poor and over-stuffed with keywords. The writer might as well just type "banana banana banana Swarovski crystals banana" for all the effort it takes to crowbar in a keyword. But if you are writing about Swarovski crystals, it's more or less impossible not to use the phrase anyway.
Indeed, it could be said that one of the keywords in this article is "keyword" - and because the article is about keywords, it has been used repeatedly without even trying. Pick your subject, think about it in a logical way, and you will see that obsessing about such a detail is not helpful for your purposes. Why overcomplicate a really very simple system? It just isn't necessary.
AdSense Mistakes #2: Trying To Trick Google
Hands up everyone whose mom or dad used to say to them: "If you had brains you'd be dangerous". Most of us? Or is that just my mom? Anyway, the point of the phrase, such as I understand it, is that some people in trying to be devious just reveal how little they know, and if they played it straight when they needed to, they'd get a lot further. This is something that people do a lot when it comes to AdSense.
An unbelievably large number of people make the mistake of trying to trick Google on a program that has been designed by Google. Now, we're talking about one of the most powerful and well-known companies in the world. Do you think they've got there by being stupid? Don't you think that when they were designing the systems that have made them so successful, they might have planned for people who would seek to exploit loopholes? You're not going to pull the wool over their eyes, and if you try to they're not going to take it lying down.
Your best chance of AdSense success is to have a good site, as simplistic as that may sound. What ads do you think are going to get the most clicks? The ones that are on sites with a high Google ranking because the content is worth reading, or the ones that are hosted by someone who has thought more about how he is going to trick Google into giving him more money? Surely the answer is simple?
AdSense Mistakes #3: Clicking Your Own Ads
Have you heard the phrase "self-praise is no recommendation"? Well, whether or not you have, it's true. If you are intent on becoming President or Prime Minister, then you are not going to get very far by wandering the streets saying "I'm amazing! Vote for me! Ask me about how fantastic I am - you'll be stunned by what a good account I give of myself!".
By the same token, you are not going to make much money on AdSense by consistently clicking your own ads. This has less to do with the fact that it takes a lot of clicks to make any real money, and more to do with the fact that Google are not stupid. You're not going to get any money from clicking your own ad - Google knows where the clicks are coming from and it will rule out any that you make for yourself.
Now, there is a difference between inadvertently clicking on your own ad - or trying it just to see what will happen - and consistently and regularly clicking on it. In the first case, Google doesn't bother much about it because such things can happen by accident or be put down to curiosity. But if you try to game them by repeated clicking on your ad, they will know - and not only will they not pay you, they will ban you.
There is a double punishment for anyone who tries to hoodwink the system in this way, which makes it doubly stupid to even try. Firstly, you waste a lot of your own time for no gain at all. Secondly, you won't be allowed to use the service anymore. So it's not worth trying to see if you can do it - do you think they're about to hand out free money to everyone?
AdSense Mistakes #4: Plagiarising Content
If you know a little bit about AdSense, then you will know that content which people want to read will attract the most clicks. It's just common sense. Many people, aware of this fact, will make a logical leap that can get them into trouble - and it's often impossible to have any sympathy for them when they do it.
You want readable content on your site, of course. That's how it works. But a staggering number of people labor under the impression that if they can't write it themselves, the best idea is to take it from somewhere they know it will be read. The idea is as follows: "I'm no writer, but this guy is really good. I'll use his content on my site, people will read it, and I'll get more clicks!".
The first thing wrong with this assumption is nothing to do with legality or morality. For one thing, it may get read a lot on one site, but that has a lot to do with placement and existing readers. Just placing it on your site won't immediately bring people in. Secondly, and this has a lot to do with legality, it is breach of copyright. You're not just breaking the law, you're doing it inefficiently.
It cannot be said often enough - you stand and fall on your own content. You might love that article on another site, but if you do, then you are better off linking to it and explaining why you love it. It's more honest and it won't get you into trouble. Write your own content, and if you really are an awful writer, pay someone else to do it - freelancers have surprisingly reasonable rates.
AdSense Mistakes #5: "More Is Always Better!"
If you don't buy a ticket, you won't win the lottery - well, that much is true. But this of course does not mean that you will win the lottery if you buy a hundred tickets. More to the point, here's another conundrum - if you ask one person out on a date, they might well say no, but this doesn't mean that you should spread your chances and ask twenty people out.
Why is this? Well, in the second case, the impression that you give is that you're not particularly fussy who you go out with, as long as someone says "yes". Someone might, by the law of averages. But if they find out that you also asked another nineteen people, they aren't going to be thrilled. In fact, by the time you get to person number #14, the chances are that they'll have heard just how desperate you are.
What does this have to do with AdSense? Well, quite a lot, surprisingly. If you paste AdSense units all over your webpage, you might think that one of them has to get clicked. But the fact of the matter is that people visiting your site will think "Would you look at how many ads there are here? I can't find any content - this is just an ad farm!". It's spam, and any clicks you do get will also have less value.
Favor quality over quantity. You may think that you're increasing your chances of making some cash by offering more opportunities, but if you look desperate, you're not going to get the quality you are after. You might get a date, but it will be with someone equally unfussy and the relationship won't be very satisfactory.
AdSense Mistakes #6: "If I Like It, They Will Too!"
One of the foremost rules of real estate and property development is as follows: Develop for the market and not for yourself. To take an extreme example, you might really love Justin Bieber. You might think "I'd definitely buy a house that had a huge picture of Justin Bieber on the wall, one that was impossible to remove or paint over!". But you're selling the house, not buying it, so what you like doesn't matter.
That's not meant to sound callous, simply to illustrate a point about how you make money. What you think is worth buying is not the important aspect when you're trying to sell. To maximise your chances of selling something, you have to give it mass appeal. Too many people get emotionally attached to developing a house for sale and make it something they'd buy, without thinking about the market.
The same goes for monetising a website. You might really like a particular niche - it can have a particular emotional attachment for you and you will find it easy to write enthusiastically about. Placing ads on that kind of content might well attract a small number of clicks from people who are equally enthusiastic about the subject - but it will not bring in much in the way of traffic.
This does not mean that you should refrain from setting up a website about a subject that enthrals you. Just don't expect it to be your money maker, and if you want to make big money you should look to develop a site which will have mass appeal and will attract clicks. Any money you make from the more obscure niche that you love is a bonus, because you like the subject matter anyway.
AdSense Mistakes #7: "If Everyone Likes It, I'm In The Money"
Just as it is a bad idea to run a website for AdSense purposes and make it about an unpopular niche, the reverse can be similarly true. Now, there is an aspect of balance to be considered here. Certainly, you want to make your website attractive, and having a popular topic for it is important. No-one should try to tell you "that's been done, try something else". But there is more to it than that.
If you are looking to "exploit" a niche, consider exactly how popular the niche is. If it's a fundamentally "limited" niche, then it will not bring in much traffic. On the other hand, if it is a spectacularly popular niche, there is the chance that your site will get lost in the churn of so many sites about the same subject, and you'll lose out to more expensive, more established sites.
This makes for a difficult decision. How popular is "too popular"? That's a value judgement and it varies from niche to niche. But if there are already twenty well established sites on the subject you want to write about, you're going to have the mother of all battles on your hands just to get noticed. On the other hand, looking for something no-one has already done doesn't leave you much space.
What you can look to do is bring a unique slant to the subject, such as geographically localising it. There are lots of sites about, for example, herbal medicine. What you might consider doing is taking a local approach by talking about herbal medicine in a specific locality. Equally, you might take a more nuanced approach by making it about the pros and the cons of herbal medicine, where many sites talk all about the pros.
AdSense Mistakes #8: Too Little Content
It cannot be said too often to people looking to make the best of their AdSense website - content is king. The number of websites you will see with uninspiring content can lead you to assume that content takes a back seat to optimization, but the fact of the matter is that the majority of those sites won't be doing much business.
It is galling for many people to hear this, but unless you go for good content, you're not likely to get very far with an AdSense website. The skills of optimization and good writing are not necessarily ones that go hand in hand - you may be brilliant at creating and tweaking websites but unable to string a sentence together, or you might be a witty, intelligent writer who can't tell his URL from his SEO.
The regrettable fact for many people is that no matter how difficult it is, you really want to have good and plentiful content on your site - or no-one's going to want to read it. If you can't write to save yourself you have two choices - learn to write better, or find someone who can. The idea of paying someone to write your content may seem like unnecessary expense to some, and like cheating to others - but in the end you have to provide what readers want, or fail.
Many sites fail to reach their potential because the creator of the site thinks they can get away with skimping on the content. You can't. Do what it takes to get good, original content on your site, and you'll be a lot better off, even if you do have to factor in payment to a good copy writer.
AdSense Mistakes #9: "It's About Content, Forget The Keywords!"
Now, for all that has been said about writing to your subject and providing interesting content, there should be no confusion on the matter of keywords. They are certainly important, and outright ignoring them is not going to get anyone very far in terms of AdSense clicks. The question of balance is an important one here, and too many people make the mistake of ignoring one thing to serve another.
The question "content or keywords" is a red herring. Ignore content and you will find that few people read the site even though the keywords have got them there. Ignore keywords and they won't ever get to the site to read the content that might have been well-written and thought-provoking, but failed to grab Google's attention.
It's not impossible to write good content and hit the keywords at the same time. It's more difficult than focusing on one or the other, but that's why there is a higher pay-off for managing it. It may be quicker to knock out a keyword-laden site or to write what comes into your head, but you have to put something in to get something out.
Practise writing to your subject and reading over your content to make sure that you aren't ignoring keywords. After a while it begins to come naturally, as you will structure sentences to emphasize a subject and lean on keywords where necessary. It might take a while to get to that point, but no-one rises to the top and stays there without putting in time and effort as a minimum.
AdSense Mistakes #10: Not Being Image Conscious
Catching someone's eye in a subtle way is not always easy. If you are in a crowd and want to get someone's attention, you'll pretty much have to jump around like a total buffoon and shout their name at the top of your voice to even stand a chance. But on the internet, this is not an option. You have to be more subtle if you want to get anywhere beyond the attention of a select few.
With AdSense, the bottom line is obvious - you want people to click the ads on your page. In order for them to click those ads, they need to see them, and to feel that they should click them. Now, you can draw people's attention to the ad by placing a very big image on the page right next to them so they are hard to miss - but Google does not like this, as it is seen as influencing the customer.
It doesn't matter if you are doing it deliberately or accidentally, it is in Google's list of things you must not do, and if you do it you will be ranked lower than you would be otherwise. If you are doing it deliberately, then you need to learn about more reasonable ways to influence them - like powerful content.
We'd all like a short cut to make things easier for us, but the truth is that a short cut which pays out every time is not going to be sustainable. If it were that simple, everyone would do it and everyone would be rich - and any economist will tell you that someone has to lose out for someone to win big. To make money you need to be good at what you do - whatever limitations are placed on you.
AdSense Mistakes #11: Not Knowing Your Keywords
If it seems like there is a lot to remember about AdSense, then there is a reason for that - it is. Sometimes it takes almost as much knowledge not to do the wrong thing as it takes to do the right one. Sometimes you don't have to specifically apply that knowledge, but just avoid going against it. So for anyone who feels that there is a contradiction between "don't rely on keywords" and "make sure you use keywords", it's important to know where the safe ground lies.
You shouldn't specifically rely on keywords because they can be overused and make a mess of your content. However, you need to have them there because they are important in terms of attracting visitors. It's like making a chilli. You need to have some peppers in there or it won't be spicy - but add too many and it's inedible.
What you need to do is use the right keywords, and use them enough to attract visitors. You might wonder what the right keywords are, and there is a ready-made tool to help you with this - the Google Keyword Tool. You have a subject in mind, and you enter this into the Google Keyword Tool, which furnishes you with the highest-paying keywords.
Your task from there is to put these keywords, in large enough quantities, into your content so as to attract advertisers (and to pull in readers who will click on those advertisements. The more attractive the keywords, the more visitors you will get - and your role is to fit these words into good content.
AdSense Mistakes #12 - It's Simple, But Not THAT Simple
The simplicity and automatic nature of AdSense can go one of two ways. Some people can think that, with the seeming simplicity of the program, there must be more to it - and drive themselves mad trying to find the "secret" of success. Others can settle on the fact that it is simple and think that they do not need to do anything to make it pay - and they are just as misguided.
AdSense will do most of the work for you. But that's the point - most does not equal all. If you are building a house, you will leave most of the work to builders, but don't assume that everything has been done and move in or put it on the market, because you need to make sure that it is what you wanted. Don't think that money will come to you without your input, because that's not workable.
There are tweaks and changes that you can make with AdSense, to make the ads fit in better with your content and the look of your website. For example, leaving the default settings on can make the ad stand out a mile, and if you do this on a site that does not fit in with it you might as well just have a sign pointing to the ad saying "THIS IS AN AD. CLICK IT NOW, PLEASE. I WANT MONEY.".
An hour or so spent playing with the settings to make the ads fit in better with the look of your site can mean the difference between lots of clicks and hardly any. Such a small amount of work for potentially a higher return is really not too much to expect. Do yourself a favor by getting it right out of the gate.
